many firsts

ryker is starting to smile.
just today he looked up at me and
gave me a huge, open-mouth smile.
it melts my heart every time.


graham and I went on our
first date without ryker.
we went with graham’s dad and brothers,
my brother and his girlfriend nichole
to the mls all-star vs. everton soccer game
(which was really fun because everton
is my father-in-law’s favorite team)

in preparation for leaving ryker
with my mom, dad, and sister
while we went to the soccer game,
we tried bottle feeding for the first time.
he didn’t mind the bottle but
seemed confused about dad feeding it to him




ryker has had an upset tummy after he eats
so we now burp him many times during each feeding.
he must be a quick learner because today
he stopped feeding, lifted his head, burped,
and went right back to eating.
i’m so proud.

a few weeks ago, we went with graham’s brothers
to the real salt lake soccer stadium.
doesn’t ryker look like a natural on the soccer field?

ryker also went swimming in my grandparents’ pool.
well...more like i put his legs in the pool.
he liked it just as much as taking a bath
and screamed the moment his toes touched the water

four things

1. ryker has found his voice and the kid can scream!
last week was a little challenging
(i called graham in tears because ryker wouldn’t stop crying)
but for my birthday, ryker didn’t cry when
i went to lunch with friends or family or
when graham took me out on a date.
ryker did cry/scream, however, at the nordstrom sale.
he was definitely the loudest baby in the store.
graham was proud to hear his son
hates shopping just as much as he does.

2. ryks is getting awesome at holding his head up.
he does great when he is on his stomach and
even lifts his head when he is on his back

3. ryker loves to sleep on his stomach.
at a few days old, he was already turning on his side
now, if he positions his arm just right, he can turn
on to his tummy – which isn’t great for breathing.
you can imagine our decrease in sleep as
we constantly check to make sure he can breathe
in whatever sleeping position he gets himself into.


4. ryker can better focus on things and people and
follows them when they move around.
I love to watch him look at everything;
to see what captures his attention.

Next up: smiling.
we think ryks is getting close to smiling
when he sees or hears us.

baby's best friends

several people have asked how the dogs
are dealing with having ryker around.



well, nigel is great with him.
anytime ryker cries,
nigel runs to his side.
graham and i
constantly have to stop
nigel from giving ryker
kisses on the face.

kylie has also been great with ryker.
but when he cries,
kylie runs outside.
she apparently doesn’t
like all the extra noise.

the dogs also seem to be
very tired lately.
i think it is because
they get up with us when
ryker cries during the night.

future

i was in the bra section at nordstrom’s
when a lady a few feet away yelled out
“come here ryker!”
a little boy about 6 years old
ran out of the rack of underwear next to me

on his way to his mother,
he stopped at a mannequin wearing
a sexy bra and underwear and shouted
“woo-woo!”

i’m convinced the name wasn’t a coincidence
and this will be something i get to look forward to!
